On Saturday 2/24/24 Station 56 and mutual aid companies were dispatched to Lafayette at Valley Forge Apartments in Upper Merion for a reported building fire. Preliminary calls reported black smoke on the 5th floor with alarm sounding. Squad 56 and Ladder 56 responded moments after dispatch. Squad 56 arrived to find nothing showing. Upon investigation it was determined there was a apartment on fire on the 5th floor. Squad 56 officer had heavy smoke on the 5th floor and requested the working fire dispatch. Squad 56 stretched a 400' attack line and established positive water to the standpipe. Ladder 56 arrived arrived and assisted UMPD with evacuating the building. Multiple mutual aid companies arrived and continued clearing the building of residents and assisted with ventilation. Fire was knocked shortly after the 10 minute mark.
