By Lieutenant Mark Wilson
August 22, 2022

On Friday August 19th, the department was dispatched to the 251 Dekalb Apartment complex for the report of an appliance fire. First arriving units climbed to the 9th floor and were met by a significant smoke condition. The assignment was upgraded to a working fire bringing additional township and mutual aide resources.

A kitchen fire was located on the 9th floor and was quickly extinguished. The smoke generated by the fire travelled throughout the building, creating a challenge for responders to clear. Crews operated for a few hours before returning to service.

The Upper Merion Township Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.
