Fire Prevention Division

 

The goal of the Fire Prevention Division is to preserve life and property from fire, explosion, and other related hazards through fire prevention, fire cause and origin investigation, and the enforcement of the Upper Merion Township adopted codes and ordinances, and the laws of the Commonwealth.  The Fire Prevention Division:

 

  • Conducts fire safety inspections of existing structures to assure conformance with the Township’s adopted codes and ordinances. 

  • Conducts inspections on new fire protection systems and buildings under construction or portions thereof by permits issued, for compliance with the Township’s adopted codes and ordinances, and the Commonwealth’s Uniform Construction Code.   

  • Conducts inspections of facilities for compliance with the Township’s adopted codes and ordinances.   

  • Investigates complaints and conduct inspections regarding reported fire safety hazards in existing structures.

  • Maintains records of fire safety inspections.

  • Review site plans for new subdivisions and land development projects to ensure compliance with the Township’s adopted codes and ordinances.  

  • Conducts Cause and Origin investigations of fire and other types of incidents.

  • Coordinates fire and life safety education programs conducted through the Fire Department.

  • Issues permit where required by the Township’s adopted codes and ordinances.
