Recycle your old lithium batteries. It is not recommended to put rechargeable lithium batteries in your trash or recycling. This includes batteries from laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, hand tools, and other battery-powered devices. Batteries can catch fire and even explode. Improper disposal can lead to severe property damage, injury, and even death. Keep yourself and others safe by following battery disposal guidelines.

If you need to get rid of rechargeable batteries, you can:

• Drop them off at a Household Waste Disposal site.
• Bring them to a store that sells rechargeable batteries or products containing them.

Stores that recycle batteries include:

• Hardware stores
• Office supply stores
• Electronics stores

Why should we recycle old lithium batteries? Recycling lithium-ion batteries is crucial because it recovers valuable materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, reduces environmental impact, and conserves natural resources. It also prevents hazardous waste and the potential for fires in landfills.
