| The Upper Merion Township Fire and EMS Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross, conducted a community smoke alarm blitz on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in the Valley Forge Acres section of Upper Merion Township.
During the event, Upper Merion Township Fire and EMS personnel visited 20 single-family homes and installed a total of 81 new smoke alarms to help protect residents and their families from the dangers of residential fires.
The smoke alarm blitz is part of the Department's ongoing commitment to community risk reduction and fire prevention. Working directly with residents to identify and address fire safety needs helps ensure that homes have properly functioning smoke alarms and that occupants have early warning in the event of a fire.
Free Smoke Alarms Available to Township Residents. Upper Merion Township residents who need smoke alarms for their homes can contact the Upper Merion Township Smoke Alarm Hotline at 484-636-3945 to schedule a convenient installation date and time.
There is no charge for the smoke alarms or installation. The American Red Cross graciously provides the smoke alarms to the Upper Merion Township Fire and EMS Department.
The Fire and EMS Department encourages all residents to ensure their homes have working smoke alarms, especially in and near sleeping areas, and to test them regularly.
